The St. Francois County Commission approved the purchase of a Kubota mini excavator for $78,531.67 under the Sourcewell cooperative contract, with payment to come from remaining ARPA funds.
Parks staff told the commission the Sourcewell price provides roughly a $24,000 discount compared with MSRP and that comparable used machines under warranty were priced at about $80,000. Staff described the machine's features (multiple bucket widths and a thumb) and said it will be used for DNR clearing work through March and then for ongoing park projects.
Maintenance and warranty questions were raised; staff said Kubota would perform major warranty repairs either at the dealer or on-site, and that the county could also use the Road & Bridge mechanic for some repairs. Staff also said there is not yet an enclosed county equipment shed at the park site but the county does have buildings at the landfill for overflow storage; the commission asked staff to follow up on storage arrangements.
The commission approved the purchase by voice vote and directed staff to complete procurement and document ARPA expenditure requirements.
