Shorewood resident urges higher election-worker pay and countywide transit benefit

John Becker, a Shorewood resident and former municipal election worker in Madison, told the Village Board that Shorewood’s election workers are paid $10 an hour and urged the village to raise compensation and consider providing a free bus pass for election-year workers.
Becker described prior experience: "When I got the invitation to work, I took it. And then I found out it was $10 an hour here in Shorewood," and compared Shorewood pay to other nearby municipalities. He said Madison pays significantly more and provides a free bus pass during the year of service; Glendale was cited on his handout as paying $16 per hour. Becker urged the village to pursue pay increases and to work with the intergovernmental council on countywide benefits to make recruitment and retention easier.
Village staff responded that this item was a citizens-to-be-heard remark, and asked Becker to submit his handout and follow up by email so the board and staff can consider his recommendations. Becker said he would email his analysis and that he had already discussed pay with village staff during his service.
