The board opened the meeting with a sequence of recognitions honoring students and staff.
Student academic and science recognitions: Plano East senior Anaya Nagandra and Kareem Hassaduddin were named 2026 Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation semifinalists. Plano ISD sent 48 students to the Texas Junior Academy of Science; five of the 10 first-place awards that advanced to the next round were won by Plano ISD students, including two Grand Prize and category-first awards. Dr. Kristen Edney also recognized 25 seniors from Plano East named National Merit semifinalists; several were present and called forward.
Fine arts and counseling: The Plano West Senior High counseling team received the Lone Star Award (bronze) from the Lone Star State School Counselor Association. The district named K'12 visual-arts contest winners: Ayan Archith Mangali (K'2 first place), Amy Lee (3'5 first place), Sarah Farhan (middle school first place), and overall/high-school winner Angelina Voe. Colin McGrane, K2 visual-arts coordinator, presented student winners and teachers.
Staff recognitions: Dr. Morgan, director of fine arts, was recognized for induction into a college Hall of Honor; Plano ISD Proud awards honored Jason (technology operations nominee named in remarks with variant spellings in the transcript) and Lita Lee from Plano ISD Head Start.
The board applauded honorees and invited guests to take photographs; trustees noted the recognitions' educational and community importance.
