Summary
Council approved Amendment No. 3 to the contract with Long Beach Transit for an additional year. Councilmembers requested a cost-benefit analysis and recent ridership data before future negotiations; staff said the amendment does not increase the contract price for the one-year extension.
Carsons council approved Amendment No. 3 to the existing contract for fixed-route transit services with Long Beach Transit (LBT) at the Nov. 5 meeting and asked staff to provide a fuller cost-benefit and ridership analysis before the next contract negotiation.
Mayor Pro Tem Cedric Hicks and other councilmembers asked for updated ridership percentages, program costs and comparisons to the former in-house services. Director Whitaker and Assistant City Manager Robert Lennox said the city had attended coordination meetings with LBT over the past several years and that the initial transition to LBT had resulted in a modest ridership increase compared with the prior fixed-route provider. Staff said the current amendment does not increase the cost for the one-year extension and that the next years pricing would be negotiated later.
Councilmembers asked staff to provide a full cost-benefit and ridership report covering the last year of operations and to return with analysis before future amendments. The council moved and approved the extension after discussion; staff said they would provide ridership percentages and cost details to the council before the end of the week or in a subsequent staff report.
