Madera County approves joining opioid‑litigation settlement agreements, authorizes execution

County counsel reported the Madera County Board of Supervisors voted 5–0 in closed session to approve and authorize execution of settlement documents related to national opioid litigation.

"A yes vote on the Purdue pharmacy bankruptcy settlement plan, a yes vote on the related governmental entity settlement agreement for a Sackler release, and a yes vote to join a 9 defendant settlement allocation agreement," county counsel told the board, summarizing the action and noting the county authorized the county administrative officer or county counsel to sign the documents on the board's behalf.

County counsel said the motion in closed session was made by Supervisor McCauley and seconded by Chair Gonzales; the vote was recorded as 5–0 in favor.

The board offered no additional public deliberation when the action was reported out in open session. No dollar amounts, timelines for receipt of funds, or specific allocation details for the county were stated in the session report.

The board has previously participated in multi‑jurisdictional opioid litigation; the motion recorded in this meeting authorized Madera County to join specific settlement allocation agreements and to approve the related bankruptcy and governmental‑entity documents.
