Council approves conditional-use permit for Uniquely U Daycare at 26101 Euclid Ave.; applicant outlines security and staffing plans

Euclid City Council on Sept. 2 approved Resolution 097-25, granting a conditional-use permit to Uniquely U Daycare Center LLC to operate a daycare at 26101 Euclid Ave. Planning and Zoning had recommended approval with two conditions: the property’s outstanding code-violation notice dated March 11 must be brought into compliance and the outdoor play area must be moved from the northern parking-lot location to an area adjacent to the rear of the building.
Applicant presentation and council questions: Applicant Sherry Austin and Darnell Austin attended council to describe the proposed operation. Ms. Austin said she obtained the building on May 7, 2025; she plans to operate Monday–Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., accommodate children from infants through age 11 (including before/after-school care), and start with three teachers plus the operator on site. She told council she has arranged to lease five teacher parking spaces from an adjacent neighbor and that the proposed playground area will be fenced and located adjacent to the rear door for direct supervision. She said staff will install interior and exterior cameras and a buzzer-controlled entry system and that teachers will be certified through required county/ODJFS trainings including CPR/first-aid.
Safety and parking: Council members asked about drop-off procedures, play-area fencing, parking sufficiency and building configuration. Ms. Austin said drop-off would occur at the rear where parents park and sign children in on a tablet; the playground will be adjacent to the rear door and fully fenced. She said teachers will be on-site and children would not be allowed to leave unsupervised.
Conditions and vote: The Planning & Zoning Commission’s two conditions remain in place (code compliance and play-area relocation) and council adopted the resolution. The council recorded its vote and the conditional-use permit was approved.
Next steps: Applicant must satisfy the outstanding code notice and obtain any required certificates of occupancy and building-safety clearances before commencing operations. The administration will follow up on parking and code compliance as part of usual permitting.
