Lancaster ISD to apply for $100,000 criminal-justice grant to hire two ISD police officers

Lancaster ISD staff informed trustees that the district plans to apply for a criminal-justice grant administered through the Office of the Governor and funded via a federal Bureau of Justice Assistance appropriation. Doctor Angie Knight told the board the proposal would request $100,000 to hire two ISD police officers to replace two of three contracted armed security officers.
Knight noted that all awards are "subject to the availability of appropriated federal funds and any modifications or additional requirements that may be imposed by law." She offered to answer questions from the board; no formal action was taken at the work session.
Staff said they would return with application details and next steps if the board supports pursuing the grant.
