Lancaster ISD finance staff propose function recoding and child-nutrition budget amendments tied to CEP

Dana Shaw Moseley, chief financial officer, reviewed two sets of budget amendments at the Feb. 12 work session. First, she asked to move $138,000 from one function to another to correctly code leased-vehicle expenses and lease-phone charges; that reclassification would not affect the district's overall budget.
On child nutrition Moseley said the high school and Barack and Michelle Obama High School moved to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), increasing meal claims and projected revenue by about $550,000. She also said staff added positions to handle increased volume and a technology position tied to a new point-of-sale system. To spend down the fund balance toward a minimum allowable level, staff proposed a $72,000 draw and requested approval to purchase three vehicles (approximately $180,000) to deliver commodities and support compliance site visits. Moseley characterized the child-nutrition fund as having a healthy balance able to cover the increases.
The board did not vote on the budget amendments at the work session; Moseley said she would present formal amendments at the regular board meeting for approval.
