"If you aren't aware, Kalyn's closet is a opportunity spot where our families that are in need and our students that are in need can come to get the resources that they need to make ends meet for the kids to go to school prepared," Sheriff said. She described the service as intended to help families avoid worrying about clothing, supplies or food so children can focus on learning.
Sheriff said the number of homeless students and families in Chino Valley "is very high," and emphasized the district's goal of making sure children "are ready to learn when they come to school." She said she maintains extended and weekend hours and that families can call to arrange a time that works for them, allowing for privacy outside the school day.
