Council approves rezoning at Stacy Drive to allow duplexes

The Socorro City Council on Oct. 6 approved a rezoning of two vacant lots at 10800 and 10808 Stacy Drive from R‑1 (single‑family residential) to R‑2 (medium‑density residential) to permit duplex development.

Planning staff reported that the properties are vacant and the future land‑use designation is suburban residential. The applicants provided site plans showing two duplex units (each unit approximately 1,200 square feet) and gathered neighbor signatures in support; no written notices of opposition were received by staff. The Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval unanimously at its Oct. 7 meeting.

Council approved the second reading and adoption of the rezoning ordinance. Staff said development will follow site‑plan and building permit reviews as required by city code.

Clarifying detail: lot sizes reported at 11,821 and 10,005 square feet; duplex units proposed at about 1,200 sq. ft. each.
