Historic Preservation panel approves Denucci's sign permit for 8 East 1st Street

The Historic Preservation Commission on Nov. 5 approved a sign-permit review for a proposed Denucci's location at 8 East 1st Street (case A‑52‑2025), permitting one awning sign and permanent window vinyl consistent with the chain's branding.

A Valley Hospitality representative identified only as Brianne described the signage package. She said window vinyl would list menu words — "aperitivo, pizza, classics, spaghetti, vino, and hot and saucy" — and the awning would be rewrapped to match the chain's existing locations in Lincoln Park and Highland Park. "We're currently under construction... we hope to be open early December," Brianne said, describing the opening timeline as dependent on finishing construction and health-licensing steps.

Commissioners discussed compliance with the sign code, noting that the proposed window vinyl would count toward the property's allowed signage and that the proposed gooseneck light fixtures would be a traditional profile in black. Staff said the work is within the code and that the permit would be forwarded to the planning commission on the following Thursday for additional processing.

A motion to approve the sign-permit review was made and seconded. Roll-call voting recorded "aye" votes from Commissioners Barclay, Gonzales, Harlow, Olsen and Chairman Bonin; the motion carried.
