County posts updated housing study; USDA awards small matching grant for Kingsbury Industrial Park loan

Matt Reardon of the LaPorte County Office of Economic Development told the board that an updated county housing study is posted on the county website and contains information on gaps in housing supply and lifecycle housing needs (options for older adults, younger residents, renters and owner‑occupied housing across municipalities).
Reardon also reported that the USDA awarded the county money—described in the meeting as "a little bit over $20,000"—targeted to projects inside Kingsbury Industrial Park. The county’s plan is to match that award and use it for one loan inside the park; the Office of Economic Development said the project is modest in size but intended to open doors for future USDA opportunities, particularly given LaPorte County’s agricultural assets.
Reardon thanked planning and building department staff for assistance with the housing study and said the report should be of interest to brokers, property owners and developers. The presentation required no board vote.
