Historic preservation commission recommends landmark designation for Zook Home and Studio

The Hinsdale Historic Preservation Commission voted Nov. 5 to approve draft findings recommending local landmark designation for the Zook Home and Studio at Catherine Leggett Memorial Park (case HPC-17-20255891) and to forward those findings to the Board for final ordinance consideration.

Commissioners said the draft findings mirror the language in the meeting minutes and identify how the property meets the local designation criteria. The staff attachment containing the findings will be added to the ordinance packet that the Board is scheduled to consider on Nov. 18; staff indicated the item was placed on the Board’s consent agenda for that meeting.

Commissioners moved and seconded the recommendation during the meeting; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative votes from Commissioner Barclay, Commissioner Gonzales, Commissioner Harlow, Commissioner Olsen and Chairman Bonin. Commissioners Weinberger and Elder were absent. With that vote, the commission’s findings will be appended to the ordinance materials provided to the Board.

The commission did not take amendments to the draft findings during the discussion, and no public comment was recorded on the item. The meeting packet and minutes were referenced repeatedly during the discussion as containing the detailed rationale for the designation and the staff-recommended findings.

The Board’s consideration on Nov. 18 will determine whether the local landmark designation is adopted into ordinance. The commission’s action on Nov. 5 was a formal recommendation only; final designation requires Board approval.
