The Transportation/Highway Committee met this morning and conducted interviews to fill up to four driver positions; committee members said they received a sufficient number of applicants and expected to fill openings. Two newly purchased trucks were reported to be in service with installed boxes and lights; radios and a front plow for a snow‑plow backup remain to be fitted. The committee reported approval of a county engineer salary resolution consistent with state provisions and said Alan Harwood will act as a part‑time road commissioner for multiple counties as he transitions toward retirement.
On public‑safety staffing, the committee was told there is one telecommunicator vacancy. A supervisor described the job as demanding and said training takes roughly eight work weeks (counting seven‑day training weeks). The supervisor said additional details about turnover reasons would need to be discussed in executive session. Other department notes included a corrections academy graduation scheduled Nov. 21 and a coroner autopsy conducted in another county.
Why it matters: Filling transportation and communications positions and equipping vehicles and radio systems are operational priorities that affect road maintenance and emergency dispatch.
