La Porte County commissioners on Nov. 5 opened and accepted bids for the county’s 2026 highway materials contract package.
Highway Superintendent Charity Glaser read bids for multiple material classes, including various crushed stone classes, slag, class 5 and 6 materials, culverts and related items. Each class received at least one bidder; some classes received multiple bids.
Commissioners moved to show the bids timely received and to accept the recommendation that the highway department take the bids under advisement and return with award recommendations. At a follow-up motion later in the meeting, commissioners accepted all timely bids and directed that the county purchase materials from the lowest responsive bidder in each class.
Glaser said the department will finalize the recommended awards and present them to the board at a subsequent meeting in accordance with procurement rules.
