Johnson County surveyor to reclassify R.A. Alexander tile as urban drain, will return Dec. 2 with reconstruction report

Greg Cantwell, Johnson County surveyor, told the Training Board on Nov. 4 that he intends to reclassify the R.A. Alexander tile as an urban drain and will prepare a surveyor's report on its condition and reconstruction costs.

"Per my conversation with them, I am prepared and do hereby, declare or reclassify the r a Alexander as an urban drain," Cantwell said at the meeting, describing recent communications with landowners and a developer proposing development on roughly 95 acres served by the tile.

Cantwell said county staff met this month with representatives of the Taylor property owners, the developer working on land to the north, and the Restoration Church on the west side of the tile to discuss reconstruction and potential encroachments. He said no formal agreement has been reached but that the board previously allowed the developer of King's Bridge to finish outlets tied to other ditch work.

Cantwell told the board he will meet with all involved parties over the next month and return Dec. 2 with a written surveyor's report covering condition and estimated reconstruction costs for the R.A. Alexander tile. The board did not take formal action on the reclassification during the Nov. 4 meeting; Cantwell characterized this as a staff determination and a commitment to report back.

The report Cantwell promised will be presented to the board at its Dec. 2 meeting and may contain recommended reconstruction steps and a cost estimate based on the surveyor's review. The board did not set any funding or schedule for reconstruction at the Nov. 4 session.
