Board denies shipping‑container storage request in Cool Spring Township

The LaPorte County Board of Zoning Appeals denied Oct. 21 a request to place a steel shipping container for storage at 2778 North 725 West (Cool Spring Township). The applicant, Alfred Liscuski, said he wished to store tractors, lawn equipment and other outdoor items and argued a new container would outlast a wood garage and cost less.
Board members questioned whether a shipping container was the best approach for aesthetics and functionality, and they suggested a traditional garage or pole barn would be preferable. A motion to approve the variance with a condition that the container be anchored to a foundation failed after three board members voted no. The presiding officer told the applicant he could reapply in a year or explore a permanent structure through the Building Department.
The denial leaves the applicant able to seek alternatives permitted by the building code or return to the board with revised plans.
