The LaPorte County Board of Zoning Appeals voted Oct. 21 to extend the approval period for a previously granted special exception for Ridgeway Power LLC and Orion Power Generation LLC to Sept. 30, 2029.
Attorney Anthony Novak of Newby Lewis Kaminsky & Jones LLP told the board the petitioner seeks the same extension date the board recently approved for a similar project. Novak said the approval period was currently set to Jan. 1, 2026, and asked the board to match the earlier extension to avoid returning for repeated requests.
The board approved the extension by voice vote after a member moved the extension and asked the petitioner to perform an annual check‑in with the Building Commissioner’s office. No remonstrators were heard because the item was presented as an administrative extension of an earlier approval.
The approval extends the permit window to Sept. 30, 2029, and requires the applicant to coordinate annually with county staff about project status.
