Will County adds 340B drug-pricing language to state agenda; health staff asked to supply program data

Dr. Kathleen Burke and health department staff presented state legislative priorities to the committee, including proposals aimed at strengthening public-health infrastructure, behavioral-health access and maternal-health outcomes.
During discussion, County Board members asked for numbers showing how many residents benefit from housing-stabilization and related programs and requested maps showing geographic distribution of beneficiaries. Martha (Community Development) and staff said a HUD year-end report and advisory-board materials include project-level information and that staff could compile and distribute the requested counts and maps. "We do a lot of affordable housing or housing stabilization type of work in addition to public infrastructure improvements," Martha said, and agreed to provide the requested data.
Dr. Burke also described proposed professional-development training to address racial disparities in maternal-health outcomes, explaining the intent is to equip staff and providers with standardized training so they can "go out and talk to all these women here saying the right things," rather than directly providing patient-facing materials.
Board members asked that the packet be updated to include language supporting the 340B drug-pricing program (a federal discount program for eligible safety-net providers). The committee informally approved swapping the final paragraph to a 340B support statement and asked Dr. Burke and staff to provide the exact text for distribution before the next board packet.
No formal board-level fiscal commitments were made; staff said HUD reporting and grant agreements would provide further detail on funding and recipients.
