The Natural Resources Board set a seed-packet assembly workday for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 4 p.m. and confirmed operational roles for the city’s Dec. 6 Christmas parade.
Board members discussed envelopes and labels for seed packets, with staff seeking quotes for customized envelopes and noting plan-B sticker options if custom printing is not available. "We still have seeds. It's the envelopes that we're waiting on," Felicia Ware said.
The board approved the Nov. 18 workday by voice vote and asked staff to send reminders a week ahead of the session. Members volunteered to ride on or walk alongside the float and discussed float-decorating logistics: meet several hours before parade line-up to decorate, confirm vehicle and truck communications and bring tropical-themed decorations to match the parade theme.
Candy and giveaway decisions were discussed at length. Members favored individually wrapped, paper-wrapped items where possible and noted prior experience with shortages during the parade. One board member reported the previous year’s supply of roughly 600 pieces nearly ran out and asked members to research options and prices; staff will aggregate specific product recommendations and potential budget implications.
Audio and staging: members said battery-operated public-address units were available as backups after an onboard truck system failed at a prior event. Staff flagged coordination with tree/plant contacts to source palms or other decorations for the float.
What’s next: staff will obtain quotes for envelopes and labels, finalize candy and giveaway purchases, circulate details on the Nov. 18 seed-packet workday and compile the volunteer list for parade day roles.
