The Will County Finance Committee voted to appropriate funds so the county can act as fiduciary for an Illinois Department of Public Health student loan repayment award for an advanced practice registered nurse employed by the Will County Health Department.
Denise Bergen of the Will County Health Department explained the program is state assistance to cover the provider's educational loans and that the county will be the fiduciary agent only: "This will cover 2 county fiscal years. We are appropriating what will pay out for the current fiscal year, and we've already added next year's portion into the fiscal year 26 budget," Bergen said. She added the county receives funds and issues payments as the provider satisfies the employment requirements.
After questions from committee members about timing and whether the appropriation affects next year's budget, the committee took a voice vote and approved the appropriation.
Ending: Staff confirmed the appropriation is intended to cover the current payout and that next fiscal-year funding had already been placed in the proposed FY26 budget.
