Summary
The Southeast Technical College Foundation received a $2,000,000 gift from Wells Fargo to fund a homebuilding laboratory on campus; foundation and college staff told the board the gift likely covers most construction costs pending bids, and the board approved naming the facility the Wells Fargo Homebuilding Laboratory.
Steve Williamson, associate vice president for external relations with the Southeast Technical College Foundation, told the board that Wells Fargo provided a $2,000,000 gift to the foundation to build a homebuilding laboratory on the Southeast Tech campus and requested approval to name the new facility the Wells Fargo Homebuilding Laboratory.
"In October, Wells Fargo provided a gift of $2,000,000 to the Southeast Technical College through the foundation to build a home building laboratory," Williamson said. He described the facility as a year‑round teaching lab where students would build a first‑time home intended for public sale as a workforce training exercise.
Board members discussed location, cost estimates and partnerships with the local CTE Academy. Staff said the project site would be on the southeast side of campus near Career Avenue and that preliminary cost estimates for structure types ranged from roughly the low‑to‑mid $1 millions for a metal building to higher for a prefab approach; staff said they would solicit RFPs to determine final costs.
The board moved, seconded and voted to approve naming the planned facility the Wells Fargo Homebuilding Laboratory. The transcript records the vote as "Aye" without a roll‑call tally in the public audio.
