Ridgecrest — Megan, representing the East Kern County Community Foundation, asked the Ridgecrest City Council on Wednesday to partner with the foundation on free grant-writing and capacity-building workshops aimed at small nonprofits in East Kern County.
"We are a nonprofit doing capacity building for other nonprofits that are doing all the work, but not getting the funding that they require to actually do good work," Megan said. She described a free weekly class (online via Zoom and recorded to YouTube) and said the foundation aims to train about 20 grant writers to be placed across local organizations so smaller groups can pursue larger funding opportunities as collaborators or sub-grantees.
Council members thanked the presenter and asked for meeting dates and a Zoom link. Megan said workshops are held Monday nights at 6 p.m. and that she would share the regular link with staff to distribute to council and community partners.
No formal council action was requested or taken; staff accepted the information and asked the presenter to share details so the city can circulate them to interested local organizations.
