Buckman board approves $300,000 transfer to hire CliftonLarsonAllen for interim accounting support

The Buckman Direct Diversion Board on Nov. 6 approved a $300,000 budget transfer from vacancy savings to a service contract with CliftonLarsonAllen to provide interim accounting and audit support after the agency—s accounting supervisor resigned.
Board members said the position—s turnover is a concern and asked staff to review the job title and recruitment strategy to improve retention. The vacancy had been posted and staff said the position previously paid about $75,000 to $90,000.
Bradley, the BDD facilities manager presenting the item, said accounting supervisor Samantha Seacrest resigned for personal reasons and staff obtained an estimate from CliftonLarsonAllen to provide services for the remainder of the fiscal year. Board members asked how the contracted amount compared to past short-term help; staff said CLA had provided audit help and training previously and the $300,000 figure reflects the scope needed to fill the current gap.
Councilor Cassatt moved to approve the amendment and Councilor Romero Wirth seconded. The board took a roll call vote and all five voting members present approved the motion.
Board members asked staff to follow up with more analysis of the vacancy, including whether the job title or pay band should change to improve retention. Staff told the board they would provide follow-up information by email regarding the posted salary range and will continue recruiting for the permanent position.
