Burleson ISD reports pass on TEA intruder-detection audits; EOP receives expedited review

The Burleson Independent School District presented a safety and security update to the board on Oct. 27, reporting successful results from recent Texas Education Agency (TEA) intruder-detection audits and completion of emergency planning reviews.
Steve Logan told the board four campuses (GDDS, Hughes, Branson and Steen Middle School) had undergone TEA's random intruder-detection audits since the previous meeting and that all four passed with no findings. He thanked campus administrators, staff and students for following established safety protocols.
Logan also reported the district submitted its Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) to the Texas School Safety Center through a voluntary expedited review pilot and that the EOP was found fully compliant with requirements. He noted that only a small percentage of districts statewide meet that standard.
On training, Logan said the district's school safety officer (SSO) team used a professional development day to train at the Fort Worth Police Department rifle range with a SWAT firearms instructor; Kurt Brown, the SSO team lead, reported the training was beneficial and that team proficiency was high.
Board members offered praise for the administration and campus teams for their work on safety, and no board action was required on the update.
