Because the two projects are tracked to separate capital accounts, administration proposed separate contracts and two separate design fees: Schrader Group at $1,246,600 for Newtown Elementary and $346,800 for Holland Middle School. Boyle Construction’s proposed CM fees were $857,615 for Newtown Elementary and $513,450 for Holland Middle School.
The committee discussed scope: Newtown Elementary plans were presented as a full renovation in the district’s master plan materials; Holland Middle’s work focuses on a cafeteria expansion and a six‑classroom addition to address projected enrollment. Committee members asked for clarification that the Newtown estimate assumes a full renovation rather than a warm/safe/dry limited scope; administration confirmed the master‑plan direction and said additional schematic design will further refine the budgets.
Administration will present the contract awards to the full board for approval. If approved, each project will proceed to schematic design, and the firms will coordinate with district staff and CHA for final budgeting and phasing.
