EPIC board accepts annual dropout and college remediation report

At its Oct. 9 meeting the EPIC Blended Learning Charter governing board reviewed and voted to accept the annual dropout and college remediation report, following the superintendent’s presentation of definitions, formulas and two-year-lagged outcome data.
Superintendent Brandon Hunt explained how the state counts dropouts—generally students under 19 who are not enrolled and are not otherwise receiving an education for the full term—and showed the board year-by-year dropout percentages. Hunt characterized the 2025 figure (15.87%) as "relatively flat" compared with prior years.
Hunt also presented remediation figures for fall, first-time, degree-seeking freshmen from the 2023–24 academic year: 422 students enrolled as first-time degree-seeking freshmen; 2 required remediation in science, 24 in English, 84 in math and 29 in reading, for a total of 105 students (about 25%) requiring at least one remediation course.
After the presentation, a board member moved to accept the report. The board recorded the motion and completed a roll-call vote in which all members present voted yes.
The board did not take additional action tied to the report during the meeting; staff were not assigned new directives in public remarks recorded at the session.
