Norristown swears in Michael Trail as police chief, pledges community collaboration

The ceremony included brief testimonials from two Montgomery County judges who emphasized Trail’s experience and community orientation. Judge Hakeem Jones, speaking for Norristown’s bench, said the judiciary “looks forward…to work further with Chief Trail and his officers.” Judge Edward Levine administered the oath.
Trail addressed the council and public after the oath, saying he arrived in Norristown about a month earlier and had received “nothing but a warm embrace” from co‑workers and residents. “I pledge to you on behalf of myself and the men and women of Norristown Police Department that we are gonna work our tails off in service to this community,” Trail said.
Council moved the meeting forward after the ceremonial portion and proceeded with planning and development items on the agenda.
The oath and remarks were a ceremonial act; no policy actions or votes took place as part of the oath itself. The municipal manager and council indicated they will continue onboarding and transition activities with the new chief.
