School committee accepts superintendent's evaluation; superintendent offers written response

The Barnstable School Committee accepted the 2024'1025 aggregated evaluation of Superintendent Sarah Hearn at its Nov. 5 meeting. The aggregate rating recorded "proficient" across the four DESE performance standards: instructional leadership, management and operations, family and community engagement, and professional culture.

Process and outcome Committee members completed one-on-one summative conversations and recorded evaluations on the standard DESE instrument; the school committee clerk aggregated the individual scores per the district's established practice. Members then voted to accept the aggregate document; the motion carried unanimously.

Superintendent response After the vote, Superintendent Hearn read a brief written statement asking that her written response be appended to the evaluation record. The superintendent thanked the committee for feedback and for the opportunity to continue work on the district improvement priorities. She also asked for more specificity in any future written comments from individual members to better align with the DESE instrument and with the evidence the district provided.
