Council extends Access’s use of Talent community center through February 2026, allocates discretionary funds

A majority of the Talent City Council voted Oct. 15 to extend the nonprofit Access’s use of the city community center through February 2026 and to allocate council discretionary funds to support that use.
City Manager Dave Sullivan told council the council discretionary fund balance is “just under $16,800” after prior commitments, and estimated Access’s space use costs at roughly $200 to $300 per month. During discussion councilors said keeping indoor space available during wet weather would aid volunteers and clients.
A motion to extend Access’s use through February 2026 was made and seconded; an attempted amendment to cap the allocation at $1,500 failed for lack of a second. The subsequent roll call vote recorded “yes” from the councilors present and the motion carried.
Councilors asked staff to confirm whether a formal agreement with Access exists and to return with terms that address potential damage to the facility’s floor and loading area. Council discussion included two estimates: a monthly cost “about $200 to 300 a month” and a staff projection the extension could use up to roughly $1,500 if needed, though council did not adopt a fixed cap.
The extension is intended to bridge operations until the new community resource center opens. Staff said construction is not expected to finish before 2026 and expressed a hope for February 2026, but did not guarantee a date.
