Savannah‑Chatham County board clarifies choice‑program seats, metrics and student supports

The Savannah‑Chatham County Board of Education heard staff say that students admitted through district choice programs receive priority scheduling for pathway classes and that students zoned to a school may be assigned to remaining seats only after choice applicants are placed.

The presentation and ensuing discussion focused on how seats are allocated, how the district measures completion and certification in pathways, and what supports and outreach the district provides to students who do not initially qualify.

Staff told the board that choice‑program applicants are vetted and scheduled first; zoned students who enroll at a school with pathway classes may be scheduled into pathway courses only when seats remain or when scheduling permits. "When the students complete the program, they take what is called the end of pathway assessment," a district staff member said.
