Superintendent Watts warns of consequences for campus violence, urges family partnership

Superintendent Denise Watts opened the Nov. 5 board meeting with a statement prioritizing family engagement and school safety. She thanked the majority of students and families who support positive school behavior and urged parents to reinforce expectations at home.

Watts said the district has experienced incidents this year including fighting and threats on social media and stressed that "violence has no place in our schools." She warned that students who engage in violent or criminal acts on school property will face consequences under the student code of conduct, and that criminal behavior will be referred to law enforcement and the district attorney.

The superintendent emphasized a shared responsibility among students, parents, teachers and staff to report issues early and enable interventions: "If you see something, say something," she said, encouraging students to report threats or concerns to counselors, administrators or parents. Watts closed by celebrating students recognized for achievements and pledging continued partnership to maintain safe, respectful and inspiring learning environments.
