MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Commissioners used their reports to describe progress on a county broadband expansion, community organization activity and employee benefit rollout details on Nov. 5.
Commissioner Sean reported that Frontier had completed work in several areas and that the company showed him locations where connections are now available; he said about 70 households had signed up so far. He said expanding connectivity and introducing additional providers should increase consumer choice and put competitive pressure on pricing.
Commissioners also reported on community organizations, including a Brown Halleck Community Association meeting that drew several dozen residents, and on local food assistance efforts amid SNAP disruptions. One commissioner, speaking from experience with Pantry Plus More, said community groups and churches had coordinated to pick up donated produce for distribution.
On employee benefits, commissioners and staff reiterated the ICRA implementation timeline: training materials and a prerecorded video were distributed; open enrollment invitations were to be emailed to employees beginning Nov. 7, with a live webinar scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday and an open-enrollment window through Nov. 21. Staff asked employees to check personal email (and spam) for enrollment invitations and to contact the county if they do not receive credentials.
No formal votes were taken on these reports; they were delivered as part of the commissioners' and department heads' reports section.
