Chestnut Ridge Park wins state award; county parks director credits staff and new mobile stage

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Chestnut Ridge Park has been named the recipient of the Austin C. Palmer Outstanding Facility Award by the West Virginia Recreation and Park Association, Monongalia County Parks and Recreation Director JR Petzko announced during public comment at the Nov. 5 county commission meeting.
Petzko said the award recognizes facilities that serve communities through design, year-round outdoor amenities and impactful programming. He credited staff for operating a resort-quality tubing hill at a low price point ($10 per rider), and singled out the addition of a mobile stage that he said improved concert production and contributed to some of the highest concert attendance numbers the park has recorded.
Petzko introduced and thanked a list of park staff and county crews by name, including Meredith Bridal (superintendent), Nick Filippelli and others, and acknowledged support letters from Morgantown leadership and the local convention and visitors bureau. He invited commissioners and members of the public to view the award materials after the meeting.
No vote was required; the announcement was delivered during the public comment portion of the meeting.
