Chestnut Ridge Park wins state "Austin C. Palmer Outstanding Facility" award; county staff recognized

JR Petzko, director of Monongalia County Parks and Recreation, told the Monongalia County Commission on Nov. 5 that Chestnut Ridge Park's Tubing Hill and Concert Amphitheater received the Austin C. Palmer Outstanding Facility Award from the West Virginia Recreation and Park Association.
Petzko said the award recognizes facilities that serve their communities with exceptional design, year-round outdoor amenities and impactful programming. He credited a new mobile stage that improved concert production and attendance and thanked park staff and the county litter crew by name for operational work that supports the tubing operation and events.
Petzko listed staff members who contributed, including Meredith Eibel (new superintendent), Nick Filippelli (registrations and art/booking), Cody Laymon (operations), Robert Lyons (lift operator), Kit Porter (housekeeping), and Andrew Castor and Dylan Weber of the county litter crew. He also thanked Mayor Lewis and Susan Riddle from the region's convention and visitors bureau for support letters submitted for the award.
Petzko described the Tubing Hill as offering what he called a "resort quality experience" for participants while noting the county charges a nominal fee. The commission received the award announcement during the public comment portion of its meeting and members congratulated park staff.
