Staff described planned activities that include decorating the historic courtroom (a 9‑foot Christmas tree and garland), courthouse tours, photo opportunities and offering schools an opportunity to contribute items to the new time capsule. Staff estimated the total cost at around $3,000 and suggested transient guest tax funds as a potential source because the event could draw visitors from outside the community.
Commissioners reacted positively to the idea; staff said they will push information to schools and meet with contractors who are assisting with the time capsule work. Staff noted the county’s 170th anniversary will be in January and discussed temporary public display options before eventual transfer to local historical collections.
Staff said no formal motion or appropriation was required at the meeting; the county administrator said he could authorize the expense under his spending authority and would proceed with planning.
