Umatilla County OKs $88,000 in fall 2025 community and economic development grants

Community Development Director Bob Walder presented the committee’s recommendations and the board approved funding for the following projects: City of Athena — pool renovations, $15,000; City of Echo — school safety zone improvements, $9,000; City of Pilot Rock — generator for city hall and emergency services, $15,000; City of Ukiah — park renovations, $11,000; Helix Parks & Rec District — picnic shelter roof replacement, $8,000; Milton-Freewater Junior Show — building/grounds improvements (Pig Arena phase 1), $10,000; Oregon East Symphony — 40th anniversary season support, $10,000; Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 — exercise equipment under a healthy-firefighters initiative, $10,000.
“The projects recommended for approval include…for a total of $88,000,” Walder told the board. Commissioners praised the grant program’s return to county-level prioritization and moved for approval. The board approved the full slate by voice vote.
