Bannock County proclaims Nov. 4'025'0through Veterans Day as Operation Green Light week

The Bannock County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 6 adopted a proclamation declaring Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, 2025, as Operation Green Light in the county and encouraged residents, businesses and government entities to display green lights during that period to honor veterans.

Melissa Hartman of Bannock County Veterans Services explained Operation Green Light as an awareness initiative supported by the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers intended to encourage public and private display of green lights in the week leading up to Veterans Day. Hartman described the program as an annual effort the county will support and said the visual symbol can help remind veterans they are appreciated, citing mental-health and stigma concerns that can cause some veterans to feel isolated.

The proclamation was read aloud during the meeting and signed by commissioners Jeff Huff, Ernie Moser and Ken Bullock. The proclamation text read in part cites national transition statistics and benefits numbers as presented at the meeting; those figures were part of the document the board adopted during the session. The board and staff discussed modest outreach steps for future years, such as partnering with local hardware stores to promote green bulbs.

No funding appropriation was made as part of the proclamation; it is a symbolic observance and a county encouragement to residents and organizations to participate.
