The Seaside City Council on Nov. 6 unanimously approved its consent agenda and advanced an ordinance to adopt the 2025 California Building Standards (Title 24) to a second reading.
Consent agenda: Council voted to approve items that included minutes, city and successor-agency checks, and several resolutions: a personnel reclassification (administrative assistant to senior administrative assistant); contract amendments related to the Campus Town Phase 1B demolition and monitoring (Harris and Associates amendment, American Integrated Resources contract increase for demolition, engineering support amendment); and other routine financial and procedural items. The mayor called for a vote and the council approved the consent agenda by majority vote on the dais; the mayor announced the motion carried unanimously.
Building-code ordinance (first reading): Interim building official Albert Salvador presented an ordinance to amend Seaside Municipal Code chapter 15 to adopt the 2025 editions of the California Building Standards (building, residential, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, energy and green building standards) with any local amendments necessary under state law. City staff said adoption on the state 3‑year cycle is required and that the new codes become effective statewide on Jan. 1, 2026. The council moved to advance the ordinance. A roll-call vote on the first reading returned four ayes and one absence; staff said the second reading and final adoption will occur at the next council meeting.
Ending: The agenda listed second-reading and adoption of the building-code ordinance for the subsequent meeting; no additional votes on these items were taken at the Nov. 6 session.
