Planning staff asks to allow larger entrance signs for parks 100 acres or more; planning board recommended approval

Planning staff told the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 6 that the county is developing a more than 200‑acre agriculture and recreation park north of Tobaccoville and that the current sign standard (allowing 75‑sq‑ft freestanding signs only for parks larger than 1,000 acres) is too restrictive for the new facility. Project planner Dan Roberts recommended amending section 6.50.2.g.0.4 of the Unified Development Ordinance to permit 75‑square‑foot freestanding signs for parks and recreation areas 100 acres or larger so visitors can locate entrances safely and easily. Roberts said the planning board held a public hearing on Oct. 9, heard no speakers in opposition, and voted unanimously to recommend approval.
