Jackson Public School District honored high school scholars who earned a "PL 5" — the district described it as the highest possible performance level on state assessments — during a gathering of the JPS High School Network at Forest Hill High School.
"PL 5, that's performance level 5, that's the highest that a scholar can score on our state assessments. Today, we honor you for setting the bar high," said a JPS staff member at the event. District staff described the moment as a celebration of students, teachers and schools for "determination," "discipline" and a growth mindset.
Officials used the event to showcase the district’s variety of specialized academic and performance programs, saying families could explore pathways including Montessori, International Baccalaureate, APAC and other specialized options. Staff said the fair gives families and scholars a window into programs that can develop students' academic or performance strengths.
"This event is important because it provides us an opportunity to show the variety of specialized programs that we have here in Jackson Public Schools," a staff member said. Staff and program representatives staffed booths to answer questions about program options and pathways.
The recording did not include formal enrollment numbers for the featured programs or a complete roster of program names and partners. The district provided a website and social channels for additional information.
