Contractors on the Seward connection project uncovered an unmarked Verizon line during excavation, forcing a trench bypass and producing a change order now estimated at roughly $140,000, committee members said. The work and associated change orders will be paid from the school bond, and staff reported the project is otherwise progressing and remains on schedule.
Staff said the contractor previously recorded a marking for that line but that surface paint had faded since August; the contractor discovered the line only while digging. The committee noted the town can pursue reimbursement options from the utility or other parties, but for now the cost will be borne from bond funds and the project will continue.

Because construction on Reservoir Road will close the school—s regular bus entrance for about a month, the committee described a temporary plan: morning drop-off will use a staging approach on Clubhouse Road and the rear of the building, while afternoon dismissals will use a reverse pickup with buses entering from the back and moving to the front loop for curbside dismissal. School staff, the bus company and police will run a dry run and distribute maps and written directions to parents in advance.
