At the start of the Nov. 6 meeting, the council recognized Chris Willie for three decades of volunteer service to the Wasatch Front Football League (WFFL). Dave Styerman, president of the Wasatch Front Football League, introduced the tribute and described Willie's multi-decade service across roles including director, executive secretary, volunteer parent and league statistician.
"Your 30 years of service will never be forgotten, and the impact you've had will continue to ripple through the community for generations," Styerman said.
Cole Stevens, director of parks and recreation, and other city officials joined in thanking Willie and presenting a newly named trophy to be awarded annually to the WFFL mini-bowl winner. The meeting also included presentation of three "I Can Make a Difference" awards for good sportsmanship; winners included Carter Allen (flag-football volunteer coach) and Beckett Baggett (tackle football participant), and prizes were sponsored in part by Boondocks.
The city framed the recognitions as community acknowledgements of long-term volunteer service and youth sportsmanship.
