The Oskaloosa City Council approved on first reading a rezoning request submitted by the First Christian Reformed Church to rezone two adjoining properties at 807 North 11th Street and 610 North 10th Street to public institutional zoning to accommodate a proposed youth center.
Staff said Planning and Zoning held a public hearing Oct. 7 and recommended approval by a 9—6 vote. The council opened the public hearing at the Nov. 3 meeting and, with no speakers rising to comment, closed the hearing prior to the first-reading vote.
The rezoning was advanced on a motion for first reading; the council then took a roll-call vote and the measure passed. No public testimony was provided at the Nov. 3 hearing.
As a first-reading rezoning action, the item will return for a subsequent reading and final action under the city's zoning procedures.
