Council discussed removing existing shrubs at town hall, installing weed barrier fabric, metal edging and rock to reduce weeds and maintenance and to improve curb appeal. A staff member reviewed cost estimates: landscape fabric roughly $1,500 (for the quantity discussed) and edging around $375 for 140 feet; total project materials were estimated at about $2,000 to $2,500 depending on quantities and quality.
A motion to purchase the landscaping materials necessary to start the xeriscape project at town hall, not to exceed $2,500, was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. Staff said town groundskeepers and volunteers will provide the labor while weather allows in the coming weeks.
Council directed staff to proceed within the approved spending cap and to return with updates if costs or scope change.
