Leslie provided the Sawyer County Public Works Committee with the airport report on Oct. 8, saying traffic had slowed in recent weeks and that staff are exploring an ADS‑B receiver to automate counts. He told the committee a hangar development site of 11 lots in Cable is planned and that the airport continues work on its master plan; he said he did not anticipate major budget changes.
During public comment, a nearby resident (Nancy) urged the committee to weigh environmental and property impacts before approving expansion plans. Nancy said the master plan's proposed relocation or expansion would require filling or impacting more than 70 acres of wetlands and affect the Namakagon National Scenic Riverway and nearby residential properties. She referenced a DNR letter and comments from the National Park Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that recommended examining all practicable alternatives, including the no‑build and relocation options. "Further development is simply not compatible with this location," Nancy said, reading portions of the DNR correspondence.
Leslie's report noted that the airport has older terminal furnaces under review and that a hangar builder backed out but a list of interested builders remains; he also said coordination with county maintenance and brush work has improved the south end of the airport property.
No formal action to adopt a master‑plan change or site work was recorded at the Oct. 8 meeting. Committee members were reminded that more detailed review and potential board action were still required.
