Supervisor Robinson and Director Jerry Klein updated the committee on the Marathon County Credit Union's planned relocation and the IT implications for county-owned properties.
Robinson said the county has leased building space to the credit union at Thomas Street and that the credit union has closed on a new downtown Wausau location (the former Associated Bank site) where it expects to complete construction and move by summer 2026. "They have closed on a new location, the old associated bank location in the downtown of Wausau," Robinson said.
Klein explained the credit union relies on the county's backbone Internet and electronics housed in county facilities, including equipment in 210 River Drive that feeds Thomas Street. Because the electronics that connect Thomas Street are located in county property, the county cannot divest 210 River Drive or Thomas Street until the credit union moves and CCIT transitions services. Klein said the credit union is not a county department and is billed for the services it receives; the county has begun a project plan for the move and will charge the credit union for transition work.
No formal action was taken at the meeting. County staff said they will coordinate the technical transition, bill the credit union for CCIT labor, and return with timing details as the credit union finalizes its construction and move schedule.
