Facilities committee flags Mechanics Building and Borgstrom Hall for cleanup ahead of master-plan moves

The board's Budget, Finance and Facilities Committee reported on a site tour of the district's Mechanic/Mechanics Building and Borgstrom Hall, noting a buildup of surplus items and a lack of a designated staff function to manage long-term storage.

The committee chair described the Mechanic's Building as "very disorganized" and said the committee will explore options, including engaging students in cleanup and working with maintenance to establish a plan to dispose of or reassign surplus equipment. The chair said the committee will review a cohesive master plan for an east-campus facility to consolidate maintenance and mechanic services; under that plan Borgstrom Hall is expected to be removed, which will require downsizing and clearing the building before demolition.

Committee members also noted extensive drama-department scenery, costumes and props stored in Borgstrom Hall and said they will coordinate with drama staff on downsizing and storage solutions.
