The Worcester Historical Commission on Nov. 6 approved a set of motions by roll call, including a procedural postponement, two building demo-delay waivers for institutional properties, approval of minutes and transitional leadership nominations.
Early in the meeting Chair Diane Long moved to postpone the first agenda item to Dec. 4, 2025, with a constructive grant deadline of Dec. 19, 2025. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
The commission approved a demolition-delay waiver for replacement windows preapproved in 2018 at 100 Institute Road (WPI, Olin Hall). WPI's Nick Colombo said the project is being resubmitted with the same specifications as the 2018 approval after the prior approval lapsed. No public comment was recorded and the waiver was approved by roll call.
The commission also approved a waiver for work at 1 Lincoln Square (the auditorium). Tim Ooshay of the parks department described roof replacements, masonry repairs, removal of smaller rooftop utilities and a decision not to demolish a penthouse; the penthouse will instead be shrink-wrapped to protect it from further damage. The commission found these repairs and limited rooftop work would not be detrimental to the city's historic resources and approved the waiver on a roll-call vote.
Commissioners approved the minutes from the Aug. 28 meeting as written.
On other business the commission advanced a transitional leadership plan. Commissioners nominated Erica for chair, Anna for vice chair and Don for clerk; the nominations were seconded and approved by roll call. Chair Diane Long and other commissioners described the changes as a transitional arrangement through the coming months.
All recorded roll-call votes in this section were unanimous among the commissioners voting in each instance, as reflected in the transcript.
