The Worcester License Commission on Nov. 6 approved a series of one‑day liquor and entertainment permits and granted new restaurant and retail licenses after applicants described security plans, service staffing and operating hours.
Chair Anthony Vigliardi called the hybrid meeting to order and said the commission was operating with two licensed commissioners, giving applicants the option to postpone if they preferred a larger voting panel. Commissioner Sharron Fisher and Chair Vigliardi voted on each application taken that morning.
JC Heath, representing Greater Good Brewing Company, asked for a one‑day malt and wine permit for the Worcester Festival of Lights on Dec. 5, saying the brewery would deliver product the day of the event and remove any unsold beer at the conclusion. "The beer will be delivered by Greater Good to the commons the day of the event between noon and 1. We'll have all excess beer that is not sold removed at the end of the event," Heath said. The commission approved the one‑day permit by voice vote.
The commission also approved a one‑day liquor and entertainment permit for Saint Joseph at Saint Stephen Parish for a Brazilian Country Fest on Nov. 15. Ed Burgold confirmed the event will run on the Duchamp Center’s second floor, that Atlas would supply alcohol, TIP‑certified servers would be on site and the organizers requested two police officers. Burgold estimated attendance "up to 500." The commission approved the application.
Denise Kapulka Cariglia requested one‑day permits for two Worcester Public Library events, including a roughly 200‑person event on Nov. 6 and a diocesan event on Dec. 4 for about 125 people. She said TIP‑certified bartenders would staff both events; the commission approved both permits.
The board granted several business licensing applications: an ordinary restaurant license for Cali Urban Grill, 394 Belmont St., which will operate daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; a grocery and meat market license for Kerouez Meat Market at 352 West Boylston St.; and a restaurant malt and wine license for Taste Experience Bistro, 162 Harding St. Owners and applicants described business hours and food service plans; Sergeant Thomas Needham reported no issues from police on the applications presented.
Each of the approvals passed by voice vote with Commissioner Fisher and Chair Vigliardi recording "yes." Applicants were told to complete any outstanding city permits required before opening.
The commission's approvals were procedural: applicants provided event logistics (tents, portable restrooms, security), confirmed TIP certification for servers and, where applicable, gave estimated attendance figures. No speaker raised objections during the consideration of these agenda items.
